My practice is about an ethical way of dyeing fabric by connecting eco-friendly fabric to nature, by using plant dyes. The technique used is a Japanese shibori and tie-dye, a process of twisting, pleating, crumpling, folding and binding with nylon thread and elastic bands. I use an organic plant based dye Indigo(Indigofera tinctoria), or any plant based dyes to add a deep earthy rich hue to natural calico cotton and Linen giving the fabric a sympathetic justice to sustainable textiles without using a chemical dye. I am interested in the way how our fabrics are produced by the textiles companies, and after intensive research I have decided to produce my own dyed/designed fabric for my soft furnishings business. The fabric I use is environmentally friendly, durable and recyclable and intended for repeat use, the combination of the dye and fabric is an ethical link to a sustainable production of textiles for the future of our environment.
