Simon Britton is a sculptor, illustrator, and performer based in Worcestershire. He is a proud Brummie by birth and continues to be inspired by the industrial heritage of England’s ‘second city’.
From an early age, he has been fascinated with kinetic sculpture, science fiction, production design, and re-using obsolete technology. Initially inspired by the interactive exhibits at Birmingham Science Museum in the 1970s, where glazed mahogany cabinets would tell tales of industrial processes from the city of a thousand trades at the press of a button or turn of a handle.
Simon spent over 30 years at work in the corporate world as a Sales Rep, Graphic Designer and Marketing Manager before deciding at the age of 50 to join the Master’s programme at BCU.
Us vs. Now is an exploration of the way we as a society interact with technology, and the effects it has upon us – and the unseen consequences of those interactions. It intends to provoke debate about our relationship with the industrial world, and raise questions about where we go next: Are we entering a pre-apocalyptic, or a pre-utopian, era?
Simon’s current practice draws inspiration from artists such as Arthur Ganson, Nam June Paik, and Tim Lewis.
