Artist Statement

JC Parente attempts to bring into awareness the existential reality of a higher realm of existence by engaging audiences not only intellectually through logical thinking but also emotionally through intuitive experiencing where thoughts are temporarily overcome by a silent and meditative inward state of being.

Having reached out beyond the limited scope of perception and by mapping that which lies beyond the confines of a solipsistic conditioned mind, he attempts to represent his experiences through art.

Being intrigued by the sensory experiences that colour and light generate, his influences are mostly drawn from the concepts of Light and Space, Minimalism and Colour Field movements.

By combining research and creativity with technical ‘making’, joining both theory and practice to explore the sublime, JC Parente then attempts to translate the abstract insights into mediums of sculpture, painting or video.

To be surrounded by a beauty that pays tribute to nature is the purpose of his art.
