This work is the beginning of an investigation into the relationship between mainstream education and grief. Unfortunately loss, will or already has impacted everyone’s lives in both private and shared experiences. The mass tragedy of this past year has prevented individual grieving from taking place, but has there ever been space made within educational spheres for the breadth of emotions that encompasses loss?

What can we as a community do to ensure the needs of the grieving child are met? How did my own experiences of loss fit in with this? What impact will my findings have on my own interactions with children? I want my film to embody the universal feeling of loss, celebrate life and share the value of togetherness.

This project would not have gotten off to the start it has without the collaboration of brave individuals who believe this topic shouldn’t be taboo. It should be spoken about and we can work towards a time when healing can feel a little bit less lonely.

A wooden frame painted in red, orange, yellow, green, blue and dark blue stripes. Inside the wooden frame are a series of felt illustrations. They show a young man with yellow hair and glasses. He has pink lips and a red jumper. The words Liam 20 are written as are a series of footsteps, a mobile phone, a number 15 in a rosette and two text boxes which say 'I knew there was something not wrong, but different' and 'oh yh, mom, By the way, I'm Bi'.

A blue grid on a white background. On top of the grid are 3 angular shapes made. These shapes suggest concrete, steel and mirrored glass. In the bottom left a hand appears to grip the blue grid structure.
