“My work relies on a symbiotic relationship between mind, pain, materials and process. Whilst my mind compels me toward specific materials, my intuitive processes are influenced by my instinctual response to material properties. Through this process of art-working, my pain is subconsciously manifested in my work.”

“These remains of trauma are anxious and quiet. They are almost always 3D, and often rely on gravity. They are anatomical and precarious, somehow occupying both weight and fragility. This is my material language – the affects of my pain.”

Most recently, Carmela’s work has involved the use of Kinetic motors and throwaway materials, generating a comical and repetitive form of anticipated trauma.

Post-Distance
