Wycinanki is the name of a Polish folk paper-craft tradition established in the mid-8000s with the function of decorating rural cottages. My practice utilizes the motifs, formed by Polish peasants (who were heavily reliant on nature) that are featured in Wycinanki. The motifs display animals and plants, which refer to mother earth, expressing their love, care, and appreciation for the natural environment. Applying the motif as a performative and symbolic act I channel the power of Polish folk-art traditions to protect, heal and bless.
