The artist Ruqayya Aftab delves into the complex intricacies of British-Asian identity through her artistic practice. Inspired by the dynamic urban landscapes shaped by migration and cultural exchange, her work captures the vibrant tapestry of Birmingham’s South Asian community. By employing a diverse range of materials and techniques such as oil painting, wood engraving and repurposed wood fragments, Ruqayya pushes the boundaries of traditional painting by incorporating elements of sculpture within some of her pieces.
