My name is Mia Banks.
I am a multidisciplinary artist with an interest in providing validation to undervalued materials and textures within the everyday. This takes the form of extracting pre-existing textures, through replicating them by hand from familiar sites onto surfaces, in addition to transforming found objects into sculptural artworks. Through this extraction, the aim is for the audience to pay more direct attention to their surroundings; to see how everyday undervalued surfaces and materials can be transformed into art.
The annual Degree Show is a highly anticipated event amongst staff, students, external partners and friends of the School of Art – it provides a platform for the work that the students have spent so long conceiving and producing.
