I am a Birmingham and London based artist who uses a range of media to explore socially constructed ideas and challenging different ways of thinking. I explore themes of feminism and mental health. Curriently, I am focusing challenging and celebrating different elements of womanhood. I am looking at fimininity as a performance that most women have to put on daily in order to fit into societies outdated norms.
The mediums I use vary between Painting, photography, collage, textiles, print, video and sculpture. I dont like to limit myself to specific mediums and processes so I can create endless possibilities. I enjoy working with materials that give me unreliable results as it can create exciting outcomes that are unexpected.
I enjoy socially engaging work that makes the viewer connect and relate to my work. My artwork, for me, is a way of experiementing and pushing the boundaries of socially contructed setreotypes. Women are often put in a box and told they have to act a certain way and only can achieve so much. In todays society, being a woman and expressing feminity is very different to what it used to be and constantly challengeing us to question what it means to be a woman. My practice is also looking at exploring the relationship between being a woman and our bodies.
