The Future Direction of Chinese Opera
This project explores the current challenges and future prospects of Chinese opera, with a particular focus on addressing the decline in the number of individuals pursuing careers in this traditional art form. The study critically examines key issues such as the financial viability of opera companies, the perceived career prospects in the field, and the impact of modernising opera’s repertoire and presentation. By drawing on successful strategies employed by international opera houses, the research proposes actionable solutions that Chinese opera institutions can implement to attract new talent, securing sustainable revenue streams, and revitalize the art form for contemporary audiences.
