Eco-Kalash : A responsible alternative

Indian weddings, in particular, are known for their extravagance and resource consumption. The predominant source of plastic waste at Indian weddings is the consumption of packaged drinking water bottles. This project aims to explore and design sustainable wedding practices that can minimise the environmental and social impacts while still creating memorable and meaningful experiences. My goal is to propose a sustainable alternative to these water bottles by reviving the traditional practice of using Terracotta clay vessels, incorporating a modern and appealing design. The water pot is multifunctional, acting both as a vessel for providing water to guests and as an eye-catching decorative centrepiece on buffet tables, effectively reducing the need for additional decorative elements.

The incorporation of traditional Madhubani art motifs in the design not only enhances the visual appeal but also positions them as chic and relevant in today’s context. Committed to sustainability, the supporting elements that contribute to the creation of a decorative environment are entirely fashioned from reused and refurbished materials. This dedication to upcycling minimizes waste and under- scores a commitment to responsible consumption. This initiative not only addresses the issue of plastic waste but also embraces and celebrates India’s rich cultural heritage through contemporary lens.
